In the evening, explore the local markets and experience the charm of Bhutan’s capital. Overnight stay in Thimphu.
Morning after breakfast, proceed for a full-day sightseeing tour of Thimphu, the cultural and political heart of Bhutan. Explore the following attractions: The National Memorial Chorten – Built in memory of the third Druk Gyalpo (King) of Bhutan, this magnificent stupa is dedicated to World Peace. It is one of the most prominent religious landmarks in Thimphu and a popular site for local Buddhist ceremonies and festivals. Buddha Dordenma Statue (Buddha Point) – Situated atop a hill overlooking Thimphu, this massive golden statue houses 125,000 smaller Buddha figures inside. Offering panoramic views of the valley, it stands as one of the tallest Buddha statues in the world and a symbol of peace and prosperity. Motithang Takin Preserve – A must-visit for nature and animal lovers, this preserve is home to Bhutan’s national animal, the Takin. Originally a small zoo, it was later converted into a wildlife reserve to protect this rare and unique species. Simply Bhutan Museum – Experience Bhutanese culture, traditions, and daily life through interactive exhibits. Enjoy traditional dance performances, archery demonstrations, and authentic local cuisine as you explore this living museum that beautifully showcases Bhutan’s simplicity and heritage. Clock Tower Square – A striking architectural landmark in the heart of Thimphu featuring four clock faces. Surrounded by cafés, restaurants, and souvenir shops, it’s a lively area ideal for an evening stroll and to witness the artistic beauty of Bhutanese design. After sightseeing, return to your hotel. Overnight stay in Thimphu.
After breakfast, drive to Punakha, a beautiful town nestled in the Himalayas of Bhutan. Punakha is renowned for its historic Punakha Dzong, breathtaking valleys, and rich cultural heritage. The town lies at the confluence of the Pho Chu (Male River) and Mo Chu (Female River), offering spectacular views of the surrounding landscapes. On the way, visit: Dochula Pass – Located at an altitude of 3,100 meters between Thimphu and Punakha, Dochula Pass offers a stunning panoramic view of the Eastern Himalayas. The site is adorned with 108 memorial chortens (stupas) built in honor of Bhutanese soldiers. During winter, the snow-covered pass turns into a breathtakingly beautiful viewpoint. Upon arrival in Punakha, visit: Punakha Dzong – Often regarded as the most beautiful fortress in Bhutan, this 17th-century architectural masterpiece stands at the meeting point of the Pho Chu and Mo Chu rivers. Besides its majestic structure and serene surroundings, the Dzong holds great historical and spiritual importance and serves as the venue for the famous Punakha Tshechu Festival, featuring masked dances and traditional music. Chimi Lhakhang (Fertility Temple) – Dedicated to the “Divine Madman” Lama Drukpa Kunley, this temple is believed to bless couples seeking children. A short walk through scenic paddy fields leads to this sacred and peaceful site. Punakha Suspension Bridge – One of the oldest and longest suspension bridges in Bhutan, this hanging bridge draped with colorful prayer flags connects the Dzong to nearby villages. It is a popular spot for photography and offers mesmerizing views of the river and valley below. After sightseeing, drive back to Paro and check in to your hotel. Overnight stay in Paro.
After breakfast, embark on a memorable day excursion in Paro. Guests can choose between two iconic experiences: Option 1: Taktsang Monastery (Tiger’s Nest) Hike One of Bhutan’s most famous landmarks, Taktsang Monastery, also known as the Tiger’s Nest, is perched dramatically on a 3,120-meter-high cliffside. The monastery is a sacred Buddhist site where Guru Padmasambhava is said to have meditated in the 8th century. The hike to Taktsang takes around 4–5 hours (round trip) and offers breathtaking views of the Paro Valley. On reaching the top, explore the monastery complex, enjoy the serene atmosphere, and capture stunning photographs of the surrounding mountains. After descending, enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before returning to your hotel for relaxation. Option 2: Chelela Pass Excursion For those who prefer a scenic drive, visit Chelela Pass, one of the highest motorable points in Bhutan (altitude 3,988 meters). Located about 35 km from Paro, the pass offers spectacular panoramic views of the Haa Valley and the snow-capped peaks of Mt. Jomolhari. The route to Chelela Pass is lined with fluttering prayer flags, alpine flowers, and lush forests – making it a paradise for nature lovers and photographers. You can also enjoy a short walk along the ridgeline, soaking in the cool mountain breeze and breathtaking landscapes. After the excursion, return to Paro. Overnight stay in Paro.
After breakfast, check out from the hotel and proceed for a half-day sightseeing tour of Paro, visiting the following attractions: National Museum of Bhutan (Ta Dzong) – Originally built in 1649 as a watchtower to protect Rinpung Dzong during times of war, Ta Dzong was later converted into the National Museum of Bhutan in 1968. The museum houses an impressive collection of ancient artifacts, traditional costumes, armor, weapons, and art pieces that beautifully depict Bhutan’s rich cultural heritage and history. Dungtse Lhakhang – A sacred Buddhist temple and one of the 108 temples built by the Tibetan King Songtsen Gampo. Known for its unique chorten-shaped architecture and spiritual significance, it stands as one of the most visited and revered monasteries in Paro. Paro Airport Viewpoint – Stop at one of the most scenic viewpoints in Bhutan to witness Paro International Airport, the country’s only international airport and one of the most challenging airstrips in the world. The breathtaking backdrop of mountains makes this a must-visit photography spot. After sightseeing, begin your drive back to Phuentsholing, enjoying the scenic mountain roads and lush valleys along the way. Upon arrival, check in to your hotel and relax. Overnight stay in Phuentsholing.
After breakfast, check out from your hotel and begin your journey back to NJP Railway Station or Bagdogra Airport.
